ABOUT US:

We are Americans currently living in Bisacquino, Sicily. I’m Tracy Zito, originally from Birmingham, Alabama. My family all emigrated from several small towns in Sicily (including Bisacquino) to the USA in the early 1900’s, seeking opportunity and a better life for their family.

My husband David and I immediately fell in love with Sicilian people, culture, cuisine and history after first visiting in 2017. Though none of my grandparents or parents were ever able to return, I felt so lucky to have the opportunity to experience such a strong reconnection to my heritage - and an overwhelming emotional bond to an island so far from home. Together, we vowed to spend more than just vacations in Sicily, and after a few more trips back and a lot of ancestral research, we made our move. We first immersed ourselves in 2020 as students in a 6-month intensive Italian language program in Bologna. Then in 2021, we moved to Bisacquino, where I was recognized as an Italian citizen through my great-grandfather, and where we would find our new home.

After going through this life-changing period discovering my Sicilian heritage, fully immersing ourselves into Sicilian culture and learning the Italian language, we are now passionate about using our experience and knowledge to be the connection for other Sicilian-Americans wanting to rediscover their roots, and for those interested in a more authentic Sicilian vacation.
